SEDONA, Ariz. – Following a review of almost fifty resumes and a nationwide recruitment, the city of Sedona hired its very own Joshua Frewin as the new parks and recreation manager. The parks and recreation manager oversees the city's parks, special events, community pool, sports programs, volunteer park rangers, kids camps and local festivals.

Frewin has worked as the recreation and aquatics supervisor with the city since July 2021 and comes with over ten years of experience in the parks and recreation industry including an international recreation internship in Valparaíso, Chile and in the parks and recreation departments for the town of Morenci and city of Cottonwood prior to coming to Sedona.

“We’re excited to promote Joshua after the great work he’s done so far with the city and we’re looking forward to seeing more of his accomplishments with the Parks and Recreation Department,” said Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Works, Andy Dickey.

Frewin graduated from Greenville University with a bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management and played on the university’s NCAA football team for four seasons. Frewin obtained his parks and recreation professional certification (CPRP) in 2021 and serves as the north region representative as one of 14 parks and recreation professionals on the statewide Arizona Parks and Recreation Association board.

While working for the city, Frewin oversaw aquatics and successfully trained, certified and supervised the lifeguard staff and pool programs. Frewin also ran the sports and recreation programs, while supervising the city's officials, volunteers and contractors to offer the best youth and adult recreation programs possible. One of Frewin’s major accomplishments includes creating the Sedona disc golf course at Posse Grounds Parks and looks forward to continuing to improve it now that it’s operational.

“I am very passionate about parks and recreation and our local Sedona community and I can’t wait to keep offering top-notch programs and working on future parks developments to even further enhance recreation opportunities here,” said Frewin.

Frewin started in his new position on April 23, 2023.
