The Arizona House of Representatives has approved HB2785, a bill that allows residents of assisted living facilities and nursing care institutions to install electronic monitoring devices in their private spaces. The bill, sponsored by State Representative Quang Nguyen, aims to protect elderly and vulnerable residents from abuse and neglect.

Representative Nguyen emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating, "This is about basic dignity and safety. No one should have to suffer in silence. If someone is being abused, if they are being neglected, if they are being mistreated—electronic monitoring can provide proof and accountability."

The bill prohibits facilities from banning electronic monitoring or retaliating against residents who choose to use it. Violators will face civil penalties under the Arizona Department of Health Services.

HB2785 aligns with the House Republican Majority Plan's focus on public safety and individual rights. "Public safety isn’t just about law enforcement; it’s about ensuring every Arizonan, including our seniors and disabled residents, is protected from harm," added Representative Nguyen.

Following its passage in the House, HB2785 will proceed to the Senate for further consideration.

Quang Nguyen serves as a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives for Legislative District I in Yavapai County and chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
