SEDONA, Ariz.– The city of Sedona is calling on its community members to participate in upcoming events aimed at discussing and providing feedback on the first draft of the 10-year update to the Community Plan. The events, in the form of community forums, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Both forums will take place at the Sedona Performing Arts Center at Sedona Red Rock High School.

According to the city, the Draft Plan has been developed based on extensive public input regarding community priorities and key issues for the next decade. The plan, once approved, will provide guidance and direction to the City Council and the Planning Zoning Commission, influencing land use, upcoming projects, programs, priorities, and the overall city vision.

During the forums, attendees will have the opportunity to see the Draft Plan, ask questions, and provide feedback. Interactive stations will be set up to discuss various topics, including housing, land development, and the environment.

"The community’s input is essential in shaping the future of Sedona. We encourage everyone to actively participate in these forums and make their voices heard," said Cynthia Lovely, city of Sedona principal planner.

The most significant changes in the updated plan focus on policy and action items related to tourism, sustainability, and housing. These issues emerged as the top priorities based on input received from the public, stakeholders, and partner organizations.

Community members have until Feb. 1, 2024, to submit their comments on the first draft of the plan. Feedback can be provided at the community forums or online at www.plansedona.com. All comments and potential revisions will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission during a public hearing on Feb. 20, 2024. The Commission will then recommend a revised draft to the City Council, which is tentatively scheduled to hold a public hearing on Mar. 12, 2024.

For more information about the Community Plan update or to review and comment on the draft plan, interested individuals can visit www.plansedona.com. Additionally, Cynthia Lovely, the city of Sedona principal planner, can be contacted at 928-203-5035 or clovely@SedonaAZ.gov for further inquiries.

The city of Sedona is determined to ensure that the community's voice is heard and taken into consideration in shaping the future of the city. The upcoming community forums provide an opportunity for residents to actively participate in the decision-making process and contribute to the development of a comprehensive and inclusive Community Plan.
