Cactus Asphalt will complete a road resurfacing effort starting April 24, 2023, continuing through May 19, 2023. More specifically, this Fractured Aggregate Surface Treatment (FAST) will occur within the following subdivisions:

  • Crimson View, 4/24
  • Valley Shadows Unit 2, 4/24
  • Kinsey Estates 1-2, 4/25 – 4/26
  • Western Hills Units 1-3, 4/25 – 4/26
  • Coffee Pot, 4/27
  • Northern Shadows, 4/27
  • Anasazi Subdivision 4/28
  • Manzanita Hills Units 1-2, 4/28
  • Red Rock Heights, 4/28
Then, a seal coat will be applied within the following subdivisions:

  • Kinsey Estates 1-2, 4/25 – 4/26
  • Valley Shadows Unit 2, 5/1 - 5/2
  • Crimson View, 5/2 - 5/3
  • Western Hills Units 1-3, 5/4 - 5/5 and 5/8 - 5/11
  • Coffee Pot, 5/12 and 5/15
  • Northern Shadows, 5/15 - 5/16
  • Anasazi Subdivision 5/17 - 5/18
  • Manzanita Hills Units 1-2, 5/17 - 5/18
  • Red Rock Heights, 5/19
After the resurfacing is complete, road paint striping will occur.

This road resurfacing effort is part of the city’s annual scheduled maintenance program and FAST is an alternative to a typical mill and overlay that is being explored for residential streets with lower traffic volumes. It provides a similar lifespan as an overlay at a fraction of the cost.

“The majority of residents give positive feedback on the FAST application, which in turn, allows the city to stretch the pavement preservation budget to treat and maintain more miles of residential streets per year. Please understand that with more moisture and winter cold temperatures more maintenance is required to preserve city streets from deteriorating or aging,” said Engineering Supervisor Kurt Harris.

Construction activities will generally occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with traffic regularly restricted to a single lane, causing potential delays. Public notification via door hangers will be hand delivered beginning April 20, 2023. Additionally Portable Message Boards may be used to provide motorists updates with specific or revised dates of proposed work schedules. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, as access to residential driveways will be restricted for up to an hour while Cactus Asphalt applies the FAST. Residents should have an alternative travel plan if they cannot wait an hour or two. On-street parking will also be restricted during construction. Traffic control will consist of signage, flagmen and the possible use of pilot vehicles. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds through work areas, maintain a safe distance from work vehicles, and not drive on wet pavement and striping.

In addition to this project, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has indicated in the first half of May, they will execute a pavement preservation project on State Route 179. Follow ADOT’s news and alerts at this webpage: www.azdot.gov/adot-news.
