SEDONA, Ariz. – The city welcomes applications for the 2023 Citizens Academy, where participants will not only receive a holistic understanding of how local government functions but also learn about how the city is tackling community topics like workforce housing, transit, traffic and more.
With presentations from City Council and each of the city departments, the academy is a free, nine-session program held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 11, 2023 to Nov. 6, 2023 in the Vultee Conference Room at City Hall, located at 106 Roadrunner Dr. In addition to the nine sessions, there will also be an optional tour of the Sedona Wastewater Treatment Plant on Oct. 24, 2023. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023 City Council meeting.
“This is a great opportunity to get involved, gain firsthand knowledge and understanding of city processes, and learn about important projects from the past, present and future,” said city of Sedona Special Initiatives Coordinator Kegn Moorcroft.
Citizens who complete the academy are encouraged to participate in the Citizen Engagement Program and apply for vacancies on city boards, commissions and work groups.
To apply, go to www.sedonaaz.gov/citizensacademy. The deadline for applications is Monday, Aug. 21, 2023 and the class is limited to the first 22 resident applicants.
