The City of Sedona's City Council has been busy making decisions and planning for the future in the month of April 2024.

During a recent meeting, City Council discussed strategies for motorized visitor use management and directed staff to explore the possibility of creating an OHV permitting program. They also approved a contract with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce for the operation of the Visitor Center in the upcoming fiscal year.

In a work session for the annual Budget Retreat, new positions and initiatives were tentatively approved for the fiscal year 2024-2025. These include various roles in different departments and projects such as destination marketing and improving city facilities.

The Council decided to postpone the Safe Place to Park program until after the November local election and approved a subdivision request for a single-family subdivision on Forest Road. Additionally, a voluntary Sister Cities’ Friendship Agreement with Canmore, Alberta Canada was also approved.

Updates were provided on Sedona In Motion projects, highlighting completed and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing transportation and infrastructure within the city.

In other news, the Sedona Trailhead Shuttle received an award for Sustainability, and the Sedona Police Department celebrated K9 Sam's second birthday. The city also received recognition for its budget presentation and is welcoming applications for the Sedona Military Service Park inscriptions.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alert text platforms and participate in various events and programs happening in Sedona, including the Curbside Yard Waste Pickup event, Spring Red Dirt Concert Series, and summer sports camps. Water aerobics and swim lessons will also be available at the Sedona Community Pool.

For those interested in getting involved, the Historic Preservation Commission is looking for a resident volunteer, and applications for the Home Energy Retrofit program are open to receive energy efficiency services.
