PRESCOTT, AZ  — Prescott City Manager Katie Gregory has named Chelsea Walton as the Community Development Director. Walton has worked with the City of Prescott since 2018. In her new role, Ms. Walton will continue to oversee the activities of the Community Development Department, including all departmental operations, projects, and programs. This includes community planning, long range planning, case review, historic preservation, plan review, building permitting, and inspections. She served as Interim Community Development Director since February of 2023.

“We are pleased to have Chelsea in this new role,” said City Manager Katie Gregory. “She has been a valuable member of the City staff, working alongside the Community Development Department for some time. Her leadership qualities and understanding of the development and building process in Prescott make her an ideal candidate for this position.”

Chelsea Walton was hired in 2018 to work for the City Manager’s Office as an ombudsman for private development projects and cross-department collaboration. Having worked only in the private sector, her background in project management, commitment to effective communication, and personal dedication to getting the job done right made her the perfect fit to improve process and private/public relations in the construction industry. Having succeeded in this role and proven her leadership abilities, Chelsea was elevated to the Community Development Department’s Interim-Director position in February of 2023.

Prior to working for the City, Chelsea began her career working for a local semi-custom home builder where she was exposed to the building side of the industry. From there, she went on to HOA property management serving the Prescott Lakes Community Association. In this role she learned the planning, development, and property maintenance side of the industry. She enjoys investing her energies in public service with a private-side perspective.

Born and raised in Northern Arizona, Chelsea is a Yavapai College alumnus and holds a Bachelor of Construction Management from Everglades University.
