In commemoration of Navajo Code Talkers Day, Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) released the following statement, honoring the distinguished service of the Code Talkers:

“Navajo Code Talkers Day commemorates the mission critical, exceptional contributions of the Code Talkers from Navajo Nation who served during World War II, and honors their extraordinary actions. These Marines used their language to transmit encrypted messages throughout the Pacific theater, helping pave the way to an American victory.“In 1982, President Reagan designated August 14th as 'a day dedicated to all members of the Navajo Nation and to all Native Americans who gave of their special talents and their lives so that others might live.'“As the Member of Congress from Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, I’m immensely proud to represent Navajo Nation and some of the last surviving Navajo Code Talkers alive today. Earlier this year, on a visit to Window Rock, I had the privilege of meeting one of these heroes, former Chairman of Navajo Nation Peter MacDonald. Our country and our state are free, in great part, to the skillset and fortitude of these men.“I, along with every American, am grateful for these patriots who served our country in a profoundly unique and significant way.”
