SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona recently made two promotions: Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Works Andy Dickey will be the new deputy city manager and Engineering Supervisor Kurt Harris will be the new director of public works.
Dickey, a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), joined the city in October 2005 as an assistant engineer and quickly rose to assistant city engineer, assistant director of public works, city engineer, director of public works and assistant city manager. He has been in the position of assistant city manager/director of public works since December 2021. Dickey grew up in the Verde Valley and obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Northern Arizona University. Dickey brings to the position a wealth of historical and project knowledge as well as his vast experience with city ordinances.
“I have enjoyed serving the city over the past 17 years, and look forward to new opportunities and challenges in this new role,” said Dickey.
Harris, also a licensed PE, joined the city in July 2022 after a long career with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), which began in 2010. Harris brings with him over 33 years of expertise in engineering and over 20 years in leadership. While employed at ADOT, he was responsible for over $18 million in annual operations and over $52 million in construction budgets. Harris was born and raised in Mesa and escaped the Valley of the Sun for Flagstaff in 2000. Harris has a bachelors in geological engineering from University of Arizona.
“I am honored and humbled in being selected to replace Andy as the public works director. I feel my career has been leading me to this next step opportunity. I am confident in the city's outstanding staff in meeting the ambitious capital improvement goals,” said Harris.
“It's always rewarding when we have the opportunity to recognize exceptional performance by promoting from within. In this case we were fortunate to have two talented team members ready to take the next steps in their careers with the city. I have no doubt they will both continue to excel in their respective new roles,” said City Manager Karen Osburn.
Dickey and Harris will start their new positions on May 29, 2023.
