Following a nationwide recruitment, the city of Sedona hired its very own Bryce Beck as the new sustainability manager. The sustainability manager oversees the city's Sustainability Program including planning, organizing and implementing programs, projects and initiatives that help Sedona become a more sustainable and climate resilient city.
Beck has worked as a sustainability coordinator with the city since September 2021 and comes with over five years of experience in climate mitigation and adaptation. Bryce shared that he is excited for the opportunity to guide sustainability programs and help in advancing a more sustainable future for the city of Sedona.
“Bryce has been a valuable addition to our team since he started with the city and will undoubtedly continue to contribute in even more meaningful ways as the new department manager. I am looking forward to seeing many sustainability programs and initiatives advanced under his leadership,” said City Manager Karen Osburn.
Beck has a Master of Science in Climate Science and Solutions and a Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation Management from Northern Arizona University (NAU), a Certified Park and Recreation Professional License, and over 13 years in project coordination and supervision. Beck also has experience in carbon accounting, watershed restoration, climate mitigation, communication and outreach.
Beck developed Sedona’s municipal and community greenhouse gas inventories and the city’s first Home Energy Retrofit Program. Additionally, he created the 2020 Sustainability Leadership Awards and State of Climate Action Forums for NAU.
Beck shared that in this new role, his goal is to continue the momentum he has created in the last two years to keep fostering cultures of sustainability, inclusivity, diversity and collaboration while advocating for sustainable solutions and community engagement.
Beck started in his new position on April 3, 2023.
