From January 18, 2023 post.

Yesterday, January 16th, around 9:30 am, our Deputy assigned to the Navajo Nation was called to assist the local tribal government with a welfare check on an elderly female in the Black Mesa area. The elderly, wheelchair-bound, female was stuck at home due to the extreme winter storm conditions and advised she was running low on food and firewood. The Deputy contacted the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and a road grader to assist. The grader was able to plow through over a foot of recent snow but could only go so far and the Deputy decided to travel by himself to the home to assist the elder.

It took the Deputy two hours to travel to her residence where he contacted the elderly woman and was able to connect her with a relative's house nearby. We appreciate the continued cooperation and partnership the Sheriff’s Office has with the Navajo Nation government and the local C.E.R.T. team.

Please do not travel unless necessary.
