City of Cottonwood Government issued the following announcement on July 26.

It is commonly reported that in the course of a drive, a parent or caretaker loses awareness of the presence of a child in the back seat of the car. Even the most loving and attentive parents, with no evidence of substance abuse or mental health disorders, can have a catastrophic lapse of memory placing the child in a deadly situation.

It’s the parents, caregivers, and bystanders’ responsibility to make sure these preventable deaths don’t continue to happen. Children are more vulnerable to heatstroke and should never be left unattended in a car for even a short period of time.
