In the past month, Arizona has been considered a hot spot when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The federal government stepped in last week as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced more than $4 billion in relief to certain health care providers affected by the coronavirus in the state of Arizona.
Most of the funding will go to hospitals that serve vulnerable populations.
“Over the past several weeks, I have urged HHS to make additional payments to Arizona safety-net and rural providers due to the coronavirus surge in the state and I am pleased to see the department do just that,” Sen. Martha McSally (D-Arizona) said in a press release. “This additional funding will provide a much-needed financial lifeline to the health care providers that are serving our most vulnerable populations to continue their efforts to defeat this virus.”
According to a press release from McSally’s office, Arizona and Nevada have three safety net hospitals that are expected to receive $47,480,089. Arizona, meanwhile, has seven more hospitals expected to receive $20,954,114 in additional relief payments.
