The House has passed the FY25 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, ensuring full funding for veterans' programs and benefits for the upcoming fiscal year. The final version of the bill includes an amendment introduced by Representative Crane aimed at protecting veterans' Second Amendment rights.

The Crane amendment clarifies that any veteran reported to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) by a VA fiduciary was done so incorrectly, in violation of their constitutional rights. According to Rep. Crane, more than 260,000 veterans have been wrongfully submitted to NICS, which has impeded their right to acquire and carry firearms.

The amendment also mandates that the VA Secretary instruct the Attorney General to remove these veterans from the NICS list. In addition to safeguarding veterans’ constitutional rights, the appropriations bill ensures that no taxpayer funds are allocated towards abortion services at the VA.
