Arizona State Rep. Quang Nguyen said Arizona House Bill 2060 is not anti-immigration, it is an “anti-criminals” bill.”
“I’m an immigrant; elected and re-elected as a rep of a rural county; not caucasian; chair of jud; twice selected as an emerging leader nationally,” Nguyen said in a post on X. “NO, HCR2060 is not an immigration bill and it is NOT anti-immigrants. It is anti-criminals.”
HCR2060 requires employers to use an E-Verify program after hiring an individual to determine if they are eligible for employment. The employer must also “keep a record of the verification for the duration of the employee's employment or at least three years, whichever is longer,” according to the bill.
The legislation also establishes “that due to the economic and fiscal impact of illegal immigration on Arizona, regulating public welfare programs that use state monies is a matter of statewide concern.”
Intentional failure to use the E-Verify system to knowingly benefit someone would be a class 6 felony violation.
Nguyen immigrated from Vietnam when he was twelve years old, flying in with his younger brother before being reunited with his parents four months later. Nguyen taught himself English and graduated high school before earning his bachelor’s from Long Beach State.
He previously worked with the Aircraft Division of Northrop Corporation. In 2006 he created his own marketing brand, Caddis Advertising.
Nguyen was elected to served as Arizona State Representative for District 1 in 2021. He is running for reelection and will be on the Republican Primary ballot in July.
