U.S. Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) said the ongoing criminal trial against former president Donald Trump is “political persecution” and that he will continue to support Trump and his campaign for presidency.

“Donald Trump could have gone to Florida & lived the American Dream, but he chose to fight for us,” Crane said. “He's standing in the breach as anti-American forces plot to turn this country into a totalitarian state.”

“The American people know what’s going on & I’m proud to support DJT,” he said.

“Why is he here? Political persecution. They can’t beat him and everybody knows it. The polls are showing it right now.”

Republican legislators made a show of support for former president Donald Trump by going to New York during his trial at the Manhattan court house.

Trump is currently on trial for alleged criminal charges of falsifying financial transactions involving payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. He has denied the 34 felony counts against him.

Much of the trial revolves around key witness Michael Cohen, a former Trump aide and legal advisor. He claims to have paid one of the “hush-money” payments to Daniels himself.

“I was only in that courthouse for about two hours, and I heard Michael Cohen admit at least six times that he lied,” Crane said in a press conference outside the trial. “That tells you everything you need to know when this is the star witness.”

Eli Crane is currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing Arizona’s 2nd district. He replaced previous U.S Congress member Tom O'Halleran in 2023. Crane, 43, was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1980. He currently lives in Oro Valley.
