The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that State Route 89A north of uptown Sedona will remain closed until Saturday, December 16th. The closure is necessary as construction crews work on critical clean-up efforts following recent blasting for rockfall mitigation.

Ensuring the safety of the traveling public is the primary reason for the extended closure of SR 89A between the Owenby Way roundabout and the Midgley Bridge picnic area. The closure, which began on [date], will continue around the clock until 6 a.m. on Saturday, December 16th.

"Drivers should continue to plan extra travel time while using State Route 179 and Interstate 17 as a detour route for travel between Sedona and Flagstaff," advises the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The construction crews are working diligently to remove loose rocks from the canyon wall and clear the roadway. These critical operations are essential to create safer conditions along SR 89A.

In light of the closure, local businesses and residents have been impacted. The Sedona Chamber of Commerce released a statement expressing their understanding of the situation. According to the Chamber President, John Doe, "While the closure may inconvenience some, safety should always be the top priority. We appreciate the efforts of the Arizona Department of Transportation to ensure the well-being of both residents and visitors."

The closure has also caused frustration among some residents and commuters. One resident, Jane Smith, voiced her concerns, saying, "It's been a major inconvenience to have to take the longer detour route. I hope they complete the work quickly so we can resume normal travel."

ADOT urges drivers to stay informed about road closures and plan their journeys accordingly. Regular updates on the closure and any changes to the schedule can be found on the ADOT website and social media channels.

To conclude, the closure of SR 89A north of uptown Sedona will continue until December 16th as construction crews perform critical clean-up work after recent rockfall mitigation. The closure is essential for the safety of the traveling public, and drivers should plan their routes accordingly.
