See the following press release from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) regarding an upcoming project in Oak Creek Canyon:
The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers, area residents and businesses that work is beginning on the SR 89A Oak Creek Canyon Improvements on Monday, April 18.
The improvements, which will be constructed at various times through the end of 2023, include rockfall mitigation, erosion control and a bridge rehabilitation along portions of the roadway between Flagstaff and Sedona.
Drivers should be prepared to slow down, stop and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following around-the-clock restrictions are in place seven days a week:
- Portions of SR 89A will be reduced to one lane only of alternating north- and southbound travel between the Pumphouse Wash Bridge and Oak Creek Vista (roughly between mileposts 387 - 390).
- Flaggers and temporary traffic signals will direct motorists through the work zones.
- 8-foot vehicle width and 30-foot vehicle length restrictions will be in place. Due to the narrow roadway, drivers will have to turn around if their vehicle exceeds the width and length restrictions.
- The speed limit will be reduced in the work zones.
The restrictions will be in place through the duration of the project.
