Innovation: 16 patents granted in Scottsdale in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 10

There were 16 patents granted in Scottsdale in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is seven more than the week before. Patents included a nanoshell-structured material as co-matrix for peptide characterization in mass spectrometry.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to Paul K. Westerhoff who filed in Aug. 17, 2018.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
