Arizona State Representative Selina Bliss has issued a proclamation recognizing January 13 as Arizona Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The announcement, made on the House floor, aligns with National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and aims to encourage Arizonans to learn about trafficking warning signs, support survivors, and assist those working to stop exploitation.
“Human trafficking thrives in silence and shadows,” said Representative Bliss. “Awareness saves lives. Arizona must remain firm in confronting traffickers, supporting survivors, and holding criminals accountable for exploiting the vulnerable.”
Bliss has previously supported legislation and oversight measures intended to protect victims, enhance enforcement efforts, and prevent state systems from enabling trafficking or exploitation.
The proclamation describes human trafficking as a form of modern slavery that exploits people through force, fraud, or coercion for labor or sex. It notes that both adults and children from diverse backgrounds can become victims due to vulnerability or economic hardship. Public awareness is emphasized as essential for identifying victims and disrupting traffickers.
The statement also highlights the collaborative work of law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, nonprofit organizations, and community partners across Arizona in addressing human trafficking.
Bliss called on her colleagues in the House of Representatives to join her in proclaiming January 13 as Arizona Human Trafficking Awareness Day. She encouraged all residents of the state to educate themselves about human trafficking, recognize its signs, and support prevention efforts.
Carbone was elected to the Arizona State House in 2023 as a Republican representing District 25 after Michelle Udall.
