Rep. Eli Crane, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 2nd district since 2023, has used his social media platform to call for support on amendments related to foreign aid and government funding.
On January 14, 2026, Crane posted: “In 2023, 114 republicans opposed my amendment to cut USAID by 50%. Today, they have the chance to redeem themselves. Urge your representative to vote YES!” He followed up later that day with another message: “Urge your representative to vote YES on both of these amendments. Otherwise we’re just accepting the status quo.” In a third post on the same date, he added: “Urge your representative to vote YES. Taxpayers should NOT be funding NED.”
Crane’s statements reference his ongoing efforts in Congress regarding U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) spending and funding for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). His advocacy comes after a previous attempt in 2023 when an amendment he supported was opposed by over one hundred Republican colleagues.
Eli Crane succeeded Tom O’Halleran as the representative for Arizona’s 2nd district beginning in 2023 and currently resides in Oro Valley. Born in Tucson in 1980, Crane is serving his first term in Congress.
