Yesterday, Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) added his support to a discharge petition led by Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), aiming to bring legislation banning Members of Congress from trading stocks to a vote. This action comes amid ongoing bipartisan concerns about potential insider trading and corruption among lawmakers.
Rep. Crane has stated that he does not trade stocks while in office and maintains that elected officials should prioritize their constituents’ interests over personal financial gain. He emphasized the need for public officials to avoid using privileged information for investment purposes.
“The American people overwhelmingly agree that Members of Congress should not be allowed to trade stocks while in office. Lawmakers who are privy to sensitive and non-public information should not have the ability to profit from their access,” said Rep. Crane. “I applaud Rep. Luna for taking initiative and leading the charge to end this corrupt practice in our nation’s capital. Republicans and Democrats alike should join forces and get this reform across the finish line.”
Eli Crane currently represents Arizona’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, having taken office in 2023 after succeeding Tom O’Halleran. Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1980, Crane is 43 years old and resides in Oro Valley.
