This morning, Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) took part in a House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing focused on fraud and the misuse of federal funds in Minnesota.
The hearing was prompted by reports from citizen journalist Nick Shirley, who documented significant fraudulent activities involving members of the Somali community in Minnesota. During the session, Rep. Crane questioned Minnesota lawmakers about their testimony that several organizations had redirected stolen federal tax dollars to politicians and provided funding to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia.
Lawmakers also stated that state executive officials were aware of these abuses before they became public and described coordinated actions taken against whistleblowers.
Eli Crane has been serving as a member of Congress for Arizona’s 2nd district since 2023, succeeding Tom O’Halleran. He was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1980 and currently resides in Oro Valley.
