Rep. Eli Crane, who represents Arizona’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media account on March 13, 2026 to criticize Senate Democrats for their handling of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding.
In a post made at 2:05 a.m. UTC, Crane wrote, “Yet Senate Democrats refuse to reopen the Department of Homeland Security. Precisely when it should be operating at 100%.”
Later that day, at 2:15 p.m. UTC, he continued his criticism by stating, “The House has acted. Twice. Thanks to the filibuster, Senate Democrats have forced a nearly month-long shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. Even Team Obama thinks they are being reckless. That’s how extreme they have become.”
Shortly after, at 2:40 p.m. UTC, Crane referenced comments from former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson as he posted, “Given the heightened threat environment we are in, Senate Democrats have ZERO excuses not to fully fund DHS. They are abusing the filibuster and making the homeland less safe. And that’s not a partisan take – it’s what Obama’s former DHS secretary Jeh Johnson just said:”
Crane’s remarks come amid an ongoing dispute between House Republicans and Senate Democrats over funding for DHS and its operations during a period described as one of increased threats to national security.
Eli Crane has represented Arizona’s 2nd District since replacing Tom O’Halleran in 2023 and is currently serving in Congress. Born in Tucson in 1980 and residing in Oro Valley, Crane has been vocal about national security issues throughout his tenure.
