The federal government has entered a shutdown, and while the House of Representatives has passed a funding extension through November 21, 2025, it still requires approval from the U.S. Senate. Only two Democrats and one Independent currently support the measure, leaving the government in a state of shutdown until additional votes are secured.

In response to the situation, Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ), who represents Arizona’s 2nd district after replacing Tom O’Halleran in 2023, has requested that his pay be withheld during the shutdown. He argues that it is inappropriate for lawmakers to receive salaries while many Americans face furloughs or delayed paychecks. Rep. Crane has also cosponsored a constitutional amendment introduced by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) aimed at prohibiting lawmakers from receiving pay during government shutdowns and preventing them from receiving back pay afterward.

Despite disruptions expected across various federal agencies, Rep. Crane’s offices will remain operational to assist constituents with casework needs. For assistance, individuals can contact the Prescott district office at (928) 286-5338 or visit online resources for guidance on affected agencies and key information.

Rep. Crane was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1980 and currently resides in Oro Valley.
