Rep. Eli Crane, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Arizona’s 2nd district, posted several updates on his social media account regarding the ongoing government shutdown and Congressional pay.
On October 1, 2025, Crane wrote, “Update: Schumer is still forcing a shutdown.” Later that day, he addressed Congressional compensation during shutdowns, stating, “Members of Congress shouldn’t get paid during a shutdown. Shouldn’t get back pay either. I’ve signed on to this effort.” In another post the same evening, Crane added, “I’ve made the same request.”
Crane has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Tom O’Halleran as representative for Arizona’s 2nd district. Born in Tucson in 1980 and currently residing in Oro Valley, Crane is among lawmakers who have publicly called for changes to Congressional pay practices during periods when government operations are halted.
