Rep. Eli Crane, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 2nd district since 2023, posted a series of statements on social media alleging widespread fraud and corruption within Minnesota’s Somali community, implicating both local politicians and terrorist networks.

On January 7, 2026, Crane claimed in a post that “Members of Minnesota’s Somali community defrauded U.S. taxpayers, funneled money to complicit politicians, and funded the Al-Shabaab terrorist network. Meanwhile, Tim Walz and other officials turned a blind eye and targeted whistleblowers. This is only the tip of the iceberg.”

Later that day, he commented on legislative action by stating “This is big. Congress should absolutely codify this ASAP.” The specific legislation referenced was not detailed in his statement.

In another post from the same morning, Crane referenced congressional oversight activity: “This morning, @GOPoversight held a hearing on the rampant fraud in Minnesota’s Somali community. Thanks to @nickshirleyy and Minnesota lawmakers, historic corruption was revealed, including stolen federal tax dollars funding politicians and terrorism:”

Crane’s remarks follow recent congressional hearings investigating allegations of financial misconduct involving members of Minnesota’s Somali community. His comments have drawn attention due to their direct accusations against elected officials such as Governor Tim Walz.

Eli Crane has served as the representative for Arizona’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding Tom O’Halleran. Born in Tucson in 1980, Crane currently resides in Oro Valley.
