Selina Bliss, Republican state representative for Arizona’s 1st Legislative District, said new legislation would create a privately funded memorial plaque at Wesley Bolin Plaza to commemorate journalist Don Bolles on the 50th anniversary of his death.
“Those who respect Arizona history understand the importance of this legislation,” said Selina Sieh Bliss, State Representative from Arizona.
According to Bliss, she posted on X to highlight the legislation honoring Don Bolles with a Capitol memorial. She included a link to an article in the Arizona Capitol Times that outlines the proposal for a plaque in Wesley Bolin Plaza. The post connects support for the bill with an appreciation of state history.
Don Bolles, an Arizona Republic reporter, died from injuries sustained in a car bombing on June 2, 1976, in Phoenix. The attack was linked to his investigations into organized crime and corruption within the state. His death led to the Arizona Project, where journalists nationwide examined related issues in the region.
Records indicate that at least 39 journalists in the United States have been targeted and killed due to their investigative work. Many such cases involve unresolved investigations or ongoing advocacy for resolution. Organizations continue to monitor these incidents to support protections for media professionals nationwide.
Bliss has served as a Republican in the Arizona House of Representatives for District 1 since her election in 2022. She has a background as a registered nurse with a doctorate in nursing practice and focuses her platform on constitutional defense and border security.
