Autumn activities and key civic events are set to take place in Prescott throughout October, according to a letter from Mayor Phil Goode. The Prescott City Council will hold two meetings this month to address significant issues, including repairs and improvements for the SR89 Effluent Line and roadways, as well as the purchase of land for future public safety facilities for both the Police and Fire Departments.
Mayor Goode announced the upcoming Prescott AirFest 2025, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prescott Regional Airport – Ernest A. Love Field. The event is free and open to families, featuring aircraft displays, military exhibits, food trucks, and an opportunity for children to interact with vehicles provided by the Prescott Fire Department. More information is available on the Prescott Regional Airport Facebook page or by calling 928-777-1114.
The mayor also highlighted the upcoming runoff election for City Council on November 4. Five candidates are competing for three council seats. In addition to electing new council members and a mayor—who will be sworn in on November 18—voters will decide on a ballot initiative concerning the Arizona Public Service (APS) franchise agreement. The current agreement expires in May 2026 after a 25-year term; voters are being asked whether they wish to renew it for another quarter-century.
“As you may know by now, the Prescott City Council runoff election is set for November 4, with five City council candidates vying for three seats. Best of luck to the candidates. We look forward to swearing in our new Council members and Mayor on November 18,” said Mayor Goode. “Also on November 4, there is a ballot initiative for the Arizona Public Service (APS) franchise agreement. The current franchise agreement with APS expires in May of 2026 after 25 years. Voters are asked to renew the agreement for another 25 years. A yes vote declares this electrical utility is beneficial to the citizens of Prescott.”
As his term nears its end, Mayor Goode stated that he plans to attend several important meetings this month—including representing Prescott at the Rural Transportation Summit in Sierra Vista from October 15-16 and participating as a panelist at an American Groundwater Trust meeting in Pinetop Lakeside on October 18—to continue advocating for rural groundwater management policy within Arizona.
Finally, preparations are underway statewide—and locally—for America’s semiquincentennial celebration in 2026 (America250). “Arizona…will be participating in America250 in 2026,” Goode noted while sharing that state planning meetings have begun across Arizona: “Notably, Prescott will serve as the first location for Arizona State sponsored activities.” He explained that a traveling exhibit featuring a full-size replica of the Liberty Bell would begin its tour at Prescott due to its status as Arizona’s first territorial capital; display begins February 14, Statehood Day.
Prescott officials expect these initiatives and events will attract residents and visitors alike during this period of transition and celebration.
