Cost of attending Yavapai College increased for all students during the 2022-23 school year

Tuition for Arizona residents attending Yavapai College rose by 3.1% for the 2022-23 academic year, as revealed in the latest report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Arizona residents paid $2,680 to attend the public four-year institution this year, an $80 increase from the $2,600 charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students faced tuition fees 248.5% higher than those for residents in the 2022-23 school year, amounting to $9,340. This represented a slight increase of 0.1% from $9,332 in the previous year.

Approximately 94% of the undergraduate student body at Yavapai College are Arizona residents, while about 6% come from other states.

Data indicates that 62% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled at Yavapai College in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. Specifically, 282 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $1.8 million, and 36 students obtained student loans exceeding $269,759.

Among all undergraduates, 1,749 students benefited from grants or scholarships amounting to $7.6 million. Additionally, 324 students took out federal student loans totaling $2 million.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
