On Tuesday, House Republicans passed House Bill 2762, sponsored by State Representative Quang Nguyen, which requires clear, plain-language labels on food products made from cultivated cells. The legislation mandates that manufacturers, packagers, or retailers must label such products as “Cell-Cultivated” or “Cell-Cultured” on the packaging.
The bill is named the “Andy Groseta Act” in honor of Andy Groseta, who served as president of several cattlemen’s associations. The measure aims to ensure that consumers are informed about the origins of their food at the point of purchase.
“Arizona families should not have to decode fine print or marketing claims to know what they are buying. If a food product is derived from cultivated cells, the label should say so plainly and directly. HB 2762 protects consumers from confusion at the grocery store and supports our ranchers and farmers who raise and grow real food under clear standards,” according to Representative Quang Nguyen.
Nguyen is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives serving Legislative District 1 in Yavapai County and is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Nguyen was elected to the Arizona State House in 2021 to represent the state’s 1st House District, replacing previous state representative Steve Pierce.
HB 2762 now moves to the Senate for consideration.
